Vocal fry is a strange type of vocals that is usually natural and easy to produce. For a few people, they can produce it when they don't try to but not when they try to, so I need to kind of trick them into doing it. Vocal fry has a kind of creaky sound to it that come when you sing very low notes, when you speak in an excessively low effort way, or when you speak while inhaling. It almost sounds more like a series of pops than actual tone.
Vocal fry has a number of uses. One such use is helping your throat relax between hard songs. It can be used as a kind of "cool down" to relax your vocal folds or warm them up. You can also use vocal fry to lead into a large number of hardcore vocal styles like fry screams. Finding subharmonics can involve fry and, finally, some people are able to use vocal fry as a method to find their whistle tone. Vocal fry by itself is not complicated so this article is going to be short, but being able to control it is critical to moving onto those other styles if you're looking to use those.
